We have all been asked many times at church, by the missionaries, by our prophets during General Conference, our local leaders and family members on missions to help out, to fellowship, to find people to teach, to invite someone to church activities. I have not created this blog because I know how to do it. I have created this blog to learn and get new ideas from all of you on how to be better member missionaries.
For those of us that have served missions, we know that without help from the members, our investigators will not progress and or after baptism they will fall away quickly. We are the tools to successful missionary work, how about we give the missionaries a hand? But how? For those of us that have not served missions, how can we get more involved with the full-time missionaries and bring others to Christ?
In Preach My Gospel there are some really good quotes about how to do missionary work. Here are a few of my favorites: (page 12 & 13)
"There is neither man or woman in the Church who is not on a mission. That mission will last as long as they live, and it is to do good, to promote righteousness, to teach the principles of truth, and to prevail upon themselves and everybody around them to live those principles that they may obtain eternal life." Pres. Brigham Young
"That is your mission, my brethern and sisters of the Church, that is your responsibility. Freely you have received and our Heavenly Father will expect you freely to share with His other sons and daughters these glorious truths.
We will attain our exaltation in the Celestial Kingdom only on the condition that we share with our Father's other children the blessings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and observe the commandments that will enrich our lives here and hereafter." Pres. George Albert Smith
And one more,
"We must share the gospel with others. That is our responsibility - every member a missionary. That is the call of the prophets of God...Member missionary work is one of the great keys to the individual growth of our members. It is my conviction that member-missionary work will raise the spirituality in any ward where applied." Pres. Ezra Taft Benson
Ah, there are so many great quotes on these pages, I encourage you to read them and then seek a way to apply and become a member missionary. So my intent of these posts will hopefully be discussion based on how all of us can do better. I hope you will share the miracles, experiences, and ideas on how you do member missionary work. Please share. I know we all (I especially) can do better at sharing our testimonies with all the people we come in contact with. Let's be honest, we see and talk with soooooo many people each and every day. Even though some may be members, we are all investigators looking for answers right now and if we have a desire to be better missionaries, Heavenly Father, of course, will help us with that desire and put someone in our path that day to reach out to. I'm excited for some new ideas so please stay tuned.
